I've been searching for a creative outlet for quite some time now.
I'm excited to share Snips and Snaps, the literal snippets and snapshots of my life, with you.
A little about me:
I've always been somewhat quiet and reflective. Some of my earliest memories are of reading Shel Silverstein, Roald Dahl, and the American Girl Doll books alone near the sunny spot in my room in Tampa. These are quiet, peaceful, personal moments that I deeply cherish.
Stemming from that, writing was and is a way for me to process what I'm thinking and feeling. Putting pen to paper (fingertips to keyboard?) remains the avenue for me to best express myself. Writing can be contemplative, edited and full of red marks, and impeccably composed. It can be spontaneous and rich with emotive imagery. Above all, writing is something I enjoy.
I'm lucky enough to have studied English Literature and Rhetoric at UC Berkeley, which boasts the best aforementioned programs in the world. Every day, my duties centered around analyzing interesting and culturally significant works and sharing my thoughts to open ears. The entire world was waiting to hear what I had to say and, as someone with a lot to share, this time in my life was extremely rewarding and validating.
This site is a way for me to recapture some of that magical time. I may not be able to stay a student forever, but I can still challenge myself to think deeply and foster independent expression.
Analysis isn't reserved for great artworks. Everything one can experience is worthy of consideration. Transcendental moments can happen anywhere if you choose to notice them. It's all in the details.
I haven't planned much out in the direction I'm hoping this blog will go. It's not a fashion blog, it's not a food blog, it's not any one thing in particular. Like jazz, its dynamic and variable tendencies are what make it precious. It's SamDriks.com after all- it's me on a page. As I add content about the things I love and the ideas that are important to me, this page will continuously evolve.
